WesionTEK Khadas Tone Boad DAC

The world of Hi-Fi audio is one which badly suffers from the law of diminishing marginal returns. For example a piece of gear that costs $300 might be only 2–5% better than one that costs $100. And one that costs $1000 might only be 3–5% better than $300 ones. However, every now and then a product comes about which not only becomes best-in-class, but also punches far above their weight. The Tone Board is an exemplar of such products. Not only does it perform better than most/all DACs around $100, it gives DACs costing thousands more a good run for their money in analytical tests.

Unboxing: for being such an inexpensive device, the unboxing experience was surprisingly good. Really neat box and all the components inside it well packaged and organized. The unit includes a really nice USB cord.

Aesthetics: it’s a bare-bones kit, doesn’t come with a case. But, in this human’s humble opinion, I think it looks great as is. Some folks in Audio Science Review forum have posted blueprints for a 3D-printed case, if you prefer that approach.

Build Quality: it looks very well made, well soldered and the layout of the circuit board looks sane. The components look and feel top-notch.
