As someone who has worked at two acquired startups, this is an incontrovertible truth. The integration into the larger org can range from awful to really good, but what doesn’t change is the fact that you no longer work for a startup. Even if that’s the narrative management keeps repeating ad nauseum. Part of the excitement and allure of working at a startup is the “building the track in front of the train” and the high stakes in execution and delivery. Cash burn vs runway. All that is lost inside a multi billion dollar org. To be clear there’s nothing fundamentally bad about working for a good company and career-wise and family-wise the stability of a large company makes complete sense. But it’s not a startup and the sooner you realize it, the more frustration you can avoid.
